Empower Charleston raised a total of $144,350 in co-investments at its nonprofit showcase, held on October 27. The Showcase of Nonprofits celebrated the finalists of Empower Charleston’s 2022 grant investment cycle. The leaders of each nonprofit made a five-minute pitch to an audience of 200 people at The Cedar Room in Charleston. The presentations focused on mental health, economic mobility, and elementary education challenges faced by youth and families in the Lowcountry.

“With these quarter-million dollars in grants, Empower Charleston is making a transformational investment in six outstanding nonprofits,” said Ian Devine, Board Chair of Empower Charleston. “The nonprofit leaders were given a microphone and five minutes to tell their stories. Their innovative approaches to some of Charleston’s most pressing problems won over the audience.”

Prior to the Showcase of Nonprofits, Empower Charleston had announced two-year strategic partnerships with Charleston Hope, Increasing H.O.P.E, and We Are Family. Those three organizations will share additional grants totaling $120,000 plus ongoing consulting from Empower Charleston.
